Shelley Community Association

The Community Association was formed in September 1976 with the express intention of re-opening and running the recently closed Shelley Church of England School as a Village Hall.

Initially the Association had to devote itself completely to running the Village Hall, which proved no small task, and the volunteer committee's time was fully occupied with fundraising.

It was essential to raise money for the improvements that were needed and to pay the rent to the Parish Council. Gradually the improvements were done and the Hall began to become self supporting from the lettings to the various groups and to individuals who hired the Hall.

This allowed the Community Association to become more involved with matters concerning the village as a whole. Apart from the Hall the Association has actively supported the formation of various community organisations and groups and it was the Association that was instrumental in promoting the Village Magazine which has since its beginnings gone from strength to strength.
